Caribbean Cargo DC (CCDC) offers the following tips for good discretion and care when packing boxes or barrels:
- If you are using used boxes, cover up ALL markings with adhesive tapes. Otherwise, use new moving boxes.
- Bottles containing any liquid e.g. oil, detergents should be placed in a plastic bag for shipping in case of a spill.
- All covers on bottles should be taped for security. This also avoids possible spillage and damage to other contents.
- Use of adequate padding to provide cushioning is strongly recommended for fragile or breakable items.
- Each box should be filled fully. Do not use newspaper to fill any voids. Double boxing with foams in between is a good idea for very fragile items.
- Do NOT pack hazardous materials such as alcohol, ammunition, aerosol, or perfumes. If you are not sure if an item may be hazardous, please check with a CCDC Customer Care Representative.
- Close all boxes — shut and sealed with strong adhesive tapes to ensure cargo is protected during transit.
- All barrels should be padlocked. CCDC will add another layer of security such as a seal and labeled adhesive tape upon customer request. Additional fee may apply.
- Label each box/barrels with Consignee’s full name, address and the country that you are shipping. Also add the number and amount of boxes (e.g. 1 of 4).
- A packing list is always helpful to you, CCDC and the destination agent. Please provide your packing list in writing prior to shipment.
- Any item of significant value should be declared to determine the need for insurance. CCDC can speak with you to guide you based on your needs.
