Urgent Jamaica Shipping Update:
Montego Bay Port Cargo Clearance Deadline
Caribbean Cargo DC is advising valued customers who have shipped cargo to Jamaica to review an important update from the Jamaica Customs Agency regarding uncleared goods at the Montego Bay Port.
The Jamaica Customs Agency, in collaboration with the Port Authority of Jamaica and Port Handlers Limited, has advised importers, consignees, and customs brokers to clear cargo at Montego Bay Port warehouse facilities by April 30, 2026. The notice is part of targeted measures to address congestion caused by a significant buildup of uncleared cargo.
According to the public notice, cargo that remains uncleared beyond the prescribed dwell time may be removed from Montego Bay and transferred to designated King’s Warehouse facilities in Kingston. Any transfer may occur at the owner’s risk and expense. Once transferred, the statutory process for uncleared goods may begin, which can include storage, further notice, and possible disposal by public auction under the Customs Act.
Customers with Jamaica-bound shipments are encouraged to act promptly, communicate with their receiving party in Jamaica, and ensure that any required documentation, payments, and collection arrangements are completed as soon as possible.
